Boggabri Golf Club hosted its annual ladies’ open day on Sunday, and although numbers were down, everyone enjoyed a great day in what were lovely weather conditions.

Even the crows observed Sunday as a rest day and only two balls were taken, making for more enjoyable golf.

Eighteen ladies attended from Narrabri, Werris Creek, Manilla and Gunnedah, alongside the local Boggabri golfers.

The winning duo with a respectable 45 stableford points were Jill Fuller and Meg Wipell from Werris Creek, while Manilla’s Libby Thomson and LeslieJefferies placed second with 43 points.

The gross winners were Narrabri’s Leisa Eather and Emily Flood with 22 points on a count back from fellow Narrabri golfers Louise Penberthy and Kate Pitman.

Boggabri locals featured in the front and back nine winners, with Liz Jones and Karen Davis winning the front nine and Kathy Davis, who paired with  Barraba’s Di Ethridge, winning the back nine.

Leisa Eather (Narrabri), Helen Overton and Elisabeth Overton (both Werris Creek) won the long drives, while the nearest to pins were won by Meg Wipell and Helen Overton, who missed a hole in one by about five centimetres on the sixth hole.

The best third shots in three divisions went to Flood, Ethridge and Wipell.

The teams event with 86 points went to Kate Pitman, Louise Penberthy, Libby Thomson and Leslie Jeffries.

Leslie was also the winner of the raffle, which was a soy candle and a lovely, quilted rug that were kindly donated by Ronda Atkinson.
