Two former champions are currently leading the way in Narrabri Golf Club’s club championships tournament heading into the final two rounds this weekend as 36 holes remain.
Adam Taylor and Zoe Tomlinson were the standouts during rounds one and two, which were held on Saturday and Sunday.
Taylor is looking to become a nine-time club champion and add to his 2000, 2003, 2009, 2013, 2020, 2021, 2023 and 2024 crowns, and he got off to an ideal start with a two-over-par score of 73 on Saturday to end the day tied with two-time champion Troy Nott.
Taylor then shot a par score on Sunday in round two and finished the weekend four shots clear of Nott after the 2017 and 2022 champion shot a 75 in the second round.
Nott is expected to miss this weekend’s round three and four action, so Taylor could enter Saturday’s play with a seven-shot lead over the Narrabri Golf Club’s three-time defending men’s open champion Karl Hatfield, who shot a 75 and a 76 to end the weekend on 151.
Josh Orman and Luke Flood are both one back from Hatfield on 152, while Keith Flood is next best with 156 to head into round three ranked sixth out of the 17 golfers in the A-grade men’s division.
Tomlinson will take an eight-shot lead into the third round of the division one ladies’ event after she played the most consistent golf across the opening weekend.
The 2023 club champion was the gross runner-up on both days with 87 and 84 to end the weekend with 171 after being beaten on Saturday by Leisa Eather’s 83 and on Sunday by Robyn Smith’s 83.
Eather shot a 98 in round two after Smith had registered a 97 in round one, so currently ranked second, just eight shots behind Tomlinson, is the defending champion Louise Penberthy with 179.
The other three division one ladies’ scores are Smith with 180, Eather with 181 and Emily Flood with 192.
Former club champion Fiona Smart also lined up on Saturday and shot an 83, but will not play the remainder of the tournament.
There are 78 golfers contesting Narrabri Golf Club’s 2025 club championships tournament, of which 57 are men and 19 are ladies.
Wayne Saunders is the B-grade men’s leader with 160 as he enters the final weekend with an eight-shot lead over second-placed Tony Nott, and leading the C-grade men are Will Cameron and Tim Simmonds with 192, closely ahead of Matt O’Connor on 195.
The division two ladies’ leader is currently Peg Penberthy with 194, ahead by three shots from Jane Lennox on 197, and the division three ladies’ leader is Maree Taylor on 218, with Sandra Nott and Meryl Nolan both close behind with 221 and 225, respectively.
