Councillor Brett Nolan has been elected to serve in the position of deputy mayor for the next 12 months.
At last week’s ordinary meeting, councillors again supported the creation of the office of deputy mayor.
Mayor Darrell Tiemens told the meeting Cr Brett Dickinson, who held the position, had been keen to see another councillor take on the role.
“I just want to personally thank Cr Dickinson for being such a steadfast and constant support for me,” Cr Tiemens said.
“It’s been really appreciated. I mean that very sincerely.
“I just want to thank you on behalf of all the councillors.”
When the call for nominations was put out, Cr Ethan Towns nominated Cr Nolan be put forward for the position. This was supported by Cr Brett Dickinson.
Cr Nolan’s election was unanimously supported by the councillors in attendance.
Cr Dickinson officially moved that council create the office of deputy mayor, that council set the term of office, and that Cr Nolan be elected to the position until the September 2026 ordinary council meeting.
This was seconded by newly-elected Cr Ryan Whillas.
“I have absolutely no doubt that you will do a terrific job,” Cr Tiemens told Cr Nolan at the meeting.
“You are a great volunteer across Narrabri Shire.
“I really appreciate you taking this on.”
