Her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazley AC KC, Governor of NSW, and Mr Dennis Wilson will be visiting Narrabri and Gunnedah from Wednesday, October 22 to Friday, October 24.
During their visit to the North West, the Vice-Regal couple will conduct engagements across the two shires.
“Dennis and I are looking forward to travelling to Gunnedah and Narrabri to meet locals, community organisations, and business owners, and soak up the history, culture, and innovative vibrancy of this thriving and connected regional community,” the Governor said.
In Narrabri, the Vice-Regal couple will meet Narrabri High School students and staff, hear from members of the Narrabri Shire Council about shire programs, and tour the University of Sydney’s Plant Breeding Institute, where they will learn about the innovative Native Grains Project.
They will also have lunch with the Polished Silver’s Over 50s Fun Group, which connects the region’s older residents, and tour the state-of-the art facilities at Australian Recycled Plastics.
In Gunnedah, the Governor and Mr Wilson will hear from representatives of the Gunnedah Shire Council about local achievements and aspirations, tour facilities at Gunnedah Leather Processors, and meet members of the Red Chief Local Aboriginal Land Council.
They will attend the book launch of The Story of Gabo, part of the 80th anniversary celebrations of the Gabo wheat variety, meet local business owners at a Gunnedah District Chamber of Commerce and Industry Breakfast, and tour the Mackellar Centre and Jean Isherwood Gallery, where they will discuss the Dorothea Mackellar Poetry Prize and other activities with members of the Dorothea Mackellar Memorial Society.
They will also enjoy morning tea with members of Gunnedah and Quirindi CWA Branches and Gunnedah Multicultural Women’s Association, and attend a 1st Gunnedah Scout Group Emergency Services night, along with members of the 1st Narrabri Scout Group and local SES and RFS representatives.
On the way back to Sydney, the Governor and Mr Wilson will stop off in Tamworth to lay a wreath at the ANZAC Memorial in commemoration of United Nations Day. They will also attend the opening ceremony for the RSL NSW Annual State Congress, during which Her Excellency will deliver a patron’s address.
