A modern-day jewel heist has taken place at the Louvre, Paris, with pieces of the French crown jewels stolen in broad daylight. Thieves disguised as construction workers and stole items including the tiara, necklace, and an earring of Maria Amalia of Naples and Sicily, the emerald necklace and a pair of emerald earrings once belonging to Empress Marie Louise, and the reliquary brooch, a large corsage bow brooch, and the tiara of Empress Eugénie de Montijo. However, the regent diamond (valued at US$60 million) was left untouched. The loss of items stolen could amount to almost 90 million Euros ($160 million AUD).
