Narrabri District Cricket Association’s red-hot start to the 2025/26 representative campaign continued on Sunday when the in-form Pink Slugs registered a seven-wicket victory against Tamworth District Cricket Association in their MA Connolly Cup season opener.

The two sides met at Leitch Oval and it was the Tamworth men who batted first after winning the toss. The visitors made 165 runs before losing their final wicket from the final ball of the 40-over innings, and Narrabri chased down the required total with ease as they made 170 runs in 27.3 overs, having lost just three wickets.

The Pink Slugs’ stand-in skipper Greg Melton thought that his side underperformed with the ball in the first innings but well and truly excelled with the bat in the second, and suggested they could have chased down more than 250 runs if they had been required to.

The victory continued a sensational start to the season for the Pink Slugs after they won all five of their War Veterans Cup matches on home soil last month across the opening weekend of that competition.

Narrabri were without their captain Jack Tate for Sunday’s match against Tamworth, but they were boosted by the return of Jake Brayshaw after he missed the War Vets Cup games.

Brayshaw starred with a player-of-the-match performance in his first rep game of the year as he took 5-30 from eight overs with the ball in the first innings and scored 25 runs off 48 deliveries with the bat in the second innings.
