Summer splashes in the Liverpool Plains are about to get better following the unveiling of Quirindi’s new aquatic centre.
State Member for Tamworth Kevin Anderson joined Liverpool Plains Shire mayor Ken Cudmore, deputy mayor Donna Lawson and councillors Jason Allan and Terry Cohen for the facility’s unveiling.
In perfect spring sunshine, the ceremony took place on the pool deck with special guests in attendance including students from local schools St Joseph’s Primary School and Quirindi High School, former mayor Doug Hawkins and local swim club representatives.
Cr Cudmore thanked the NSW government for funding the construction of the new Quirindi Aquatic Centre, which was allocated $6.6 million through the Resources for Regions Program.
“This amazing recreational facility is the result of vision, teamwork, and commitment and there are many people to thank for the part they have played in bringing the project to life,” Cr Cudmore said.
“We’re incredibly grateful to the NSW government for funding this project and helping us give our community a first-rate aquatic centre, which will serve the entire Liverpool Plains community for many years to come.
“Special thanks also to Michael Hoy, James Dunford and the rest of the team at Beau Corp Projects who have done an exceptional job delivering this project, as well as council’s project manager, Ben Howard, who helped us get this project over the finish line in time for summer.”
Cr Cudmore also thanked former and current Liverpool Plains Shire councillors who have all contributed to its development as well as staff and various contractors who have been involved with the project since its inception.
“We held our community open day last Saturday, making entry free for the day and throwing on a sausage sizzle, and it was great to see lots of people come along and enjoy the pool and join in the fun,” Cr Cudmore said.
“We appreciate our community’s patience and support as we’ve worked to complete this project, and the feedback so far has been very positive, which is a great outcome.”
Key features of the Quirindi Aquatic Centre include a six-lane 50 metre swimming pool, wading/program pool, splashpad, meeting room and grassed seating area.
