Moree’s Kyla Belle is back on the airwaves following the launch of her new single Sweetheart.
The 16-year-old Gomeroi singer-songwriter’s newly-launched material has been described as a a jangly burst of country-rooted pop that cements her place as one of Australia’s brightest emerging artists.
Produced by Z & Fabien Bethuizeau, mixed by US heavyweight Michael Freeman and mastered by Nashville legend Joe LaPorta, ‘Sweetheart’ finds Kyla’s storytelling wrapped in a sound that crackles with tension and release. Jangly guitars, atmospheric edges, and the unmistakable emotional honesty that runs through her writing.
“Sweetheart like most of my songs was written while sat on my bedroom floor,” said Kyla.
“When writing Sweetheart I wanted to create a story depicting a love and hate relationship. Describing the thoughts and feelings of wanting two different worlds or people at the same time and knowing the difference between something you want and something you need.”
The accompanying visualiser, directed by Zoe Dubuc and produced by Luca Blades, adds another layer to the story.
“Our aim was to use the breaking of a glass to symbolize the fragility of the love and hate relationship.”
Shot at Woodstock Community Centre in Burwood, Kyla marries beauty with destruction. Dancing on shattered glass in a white lace dress and cowboy boots, she gives light to the emotional push-and-pull at the heart of the song.
Following the success of her previous single ‘Myself’ – added across Spotify’s Heaps Country, Big Ancestor Energy, New Music Friday and Apple Music’s New Music Daily, New In Country, Heaps Local and First editorial playlists – Kyla continues to go from strength to strength. At just 16 years old her rapid momentum has been nothing short of remarkable.
She won the Triple J Unearthed High Indigenous Initiative (2025), received national airplay on stations including Triple J and ABC Country and was awarded the Outstanding Achievement in Creative and Performing Arts Award at the Nanga Mai Awards. Industry veterans are taking notice too. Aussie icon G Flip said, “I was shown a video of Kyla Belle the other day and was blown away!”
After taking the stage as a soloist in the NSW School Spectacular at Qudos Bank Arena, Kyla’s growing live presence is undeniable. She also stepped onto national TV screens with an appearance on Sunrise during School Spectacular week, introducing her music to viewers across the country.
In 2026, Kyla will embark on her first national tour to celebrate her forthcoming debut EP, Took a Turn, with dates to be announced soon.
