The Narrabri CBD will be abuzz with festive excitement next week with the return of the much-loved Narrabri and District Chamber of Commerce Christmas Street Carnival.
Chamber president Russell Stewart said the organisation, which has been planning the festivities for many months, was excited about the range of activities and entertainment on offer next Friday evening.
This year, the chamber has again secured carnival rides, which are a popular component of the evening. This year will see the Riptide and Tea Cups rides return, while organisers are pleased to welcome the Storm Rider to the festive occasion.
Rides will again cost $2, making the night an affordable event for local families.
Mr Stewart said chamber was pleased to again stage the event for the benefit of the community.
“Your local chamber gets a lot of satisfaction bringing this event to the community,” Mr Stewart said.
The event is heavily subsidised by the chamber and partnering businesses and organisations.
“The street carnival brings in 3000 people to Narrabri’s main street,” he said.
In addition to amusement rides, the festivities will include music and entertainment, vintage cars, an array of street stalls (many conducted by local service organisations) and late-night shopping.
The Narrabri Christmas tree, again located adjacent to the post office, will serve as a beautiful backdrop to the night’s offering.
The tree is a chamber initiative and is facilitated thanks to great work by the Gale family and GFS Engineering.
Mr Stewart praised the sponsors for partnering with the chamber to ensure the community event can go ahead.
“We couldn’t do it without our incredible sponsors,” Mr Stewart said.
Later in the evening, at 7.30pm, The Courier will draw the prizes from its Shop Local Christmas promotion on stage.
The Courier will again bring a special guest to the festivities, with Father Christmas making an appearance for photos with children.
On the day – Friday, December 12, Maitland Street will close to traffic between Doyle and Dewhurst Streets from 3pm.
“We would like to remind people that if your car is still parked in that section of Maitland Street after 3pm, there is a real chance you won’t be able to get out,” Mr Stewart said.
The Narrabri Chamber of Commerce Christmas Street Carnival will start at 5pm on Friday, December 12, and will run through to 9pm.
