Australia’s social media ban has now come in force for children and teenagers aged under 16. The world-first legislation officially took effect on Wednesday. The changes restrict access to 10 different social media channels and apps, including more popular and widely used platforms Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok, X (formerly Twitter) and YouTube. Social media companies will face fines up to $50 million if they do not take reasonable steps to prevent children and teenagers aged under 16 from holding a social media account.
