Santa stopped by the Wee Waa Christmas Street Festival last Friday, spreading cheer and lollies to a crowd of adoring local children. Arriving in his signature style, via the fire and rescue truck with its flashing lights, the jolly man in red was just one of the celebration’s highlights that saw Rose Street transformed into a fun and festive community event to kick off the silly season.
“I think everyone had a lovely time,” said Wee Waa Chamber of Commerce member Roxanne Whitton.
The chamber was the driving force behind the street festival, with support from Narrabri Shire Council, Namoi Cotton and the community.
With the Lions Club’s popular ham wheel spinning and the PCYC barbecue cooking, there was something for everyone.
From market stalls and late-night shopping to support local business to popular showbags and the cool misting machine which was the perfect way to beat the heat.
“Chippy’s (Christian Petersen’s) cool misting machine was a clever idea,” added Roxanne.
“And it was good for the PCYC team to come to not only do the barbecue but the shuttle football toss, which the kids love.
“People then kicked on at House on Rose, with DJ Bomz playing – it was great fun.”
On behalf of the Wee Waa and District Chamber of Commerce, Roxanne thanked the sponsors, along with all the businesses, community groups and members and attendees who helped to make the street festival such a fantastic evening and she wished everyone a Merry Christmas.
