Narrabri Shire Council is reminding residents that Australia Day will be celebrated on Monday, January 26, with a full program of events taking place across Narrabri, Boggabri and Wee Waa.
This year’s Australia Day ambassador is Professor Veena Sahajwalla AO, an internationally acclaimed materials scientist, engineer and inventor. Professor Sahajwalla was named NSW Australian of the Year in 2021 and received an Order of Australia in 2025 for distinguished service to science, innovation and community engagement. She will attend Australia Day events in Narrabri and Boggabri.

Australia Day celebrations will include a Australian citizenship ceremony, Australia Day awards, community breakfasts and family-friendly activities, providing opportunities for residents and visitors to come together and celebrate.
Boggabri
The day will begin with an Australia Day breakfast at Boggabri Public School, Merton Street, from 8.00am to 9.00am.
In the afternoon, celebrations will continue at the Boggabri Memorial Swimming Pool, corner of Laidlaw Street and Caxton Street, with free entry, a free barbecue lunch and family fun activities from 12.00pm to 6.00pm.
Narrabri
A citizenship ceremony and Australia Day awards presentation will be held at The Crossing Theatre, 117 Tibbereena Street, commencing at 10.30am (guests asked to arrive from 10.00am), concluding at approximately 12.30pm.
The afternoon will feature a family fun day at the Narrabri Aquatic Centre with free entry from 12.00pm to 6.00pm.
Wee Waa
An Australia Day breakfast and entertainment will be held at the Wee Waa Presbyterian Church, 149 Mitchell Street, from 7.00am to 9.00am.
Afternoon celebrations will take place at the Wee Waa Memorial Swimming Pool, with a family fun day and free entry running from 12.00pm to 6.00pm.
