The local market briefly hit a record high earlier today as some big gains in companies reporting this week have boosted the index.

Oil and gas mob Santos shares have been trading in a sideways range for some years. There is some chatter that now some new fields are in operation that some reduction of staff numbers may be on the books.

From an article in Firstlinks comes the result of a recent small survey on whether it is a good thing that Australian house prices rise.

The amount of capital being spent in the AI build-out is enormous with around US$600 billion or so for this year alone. All that has to come from somewhere with analysts estimating that spend putting a major dent in the amount of share buybacks this year.

An interesting take on a “conditional” seasonal look at this US mid-term election year averages. Being in a bull market any pullback in US equities could be small and with a possible low coming earlier in the year than normal. Time will tell.

This is all over the internet this week. Just does not seem fair and equitable that massive amounts of exported gas earn less in tax revenue than that from the domestic tax on beer, much the same as wealthy retiree couples having $3 million in pension mode with all earnings tax free. Earning just a 10 per cent return is $300k tax free, gratis, while those working for a living cop the tax. Just not fair and equitable.
