A man has faced court on drug and pursuit charges, following a police pursuit near Narrabri on Monday.

Officers attached to Oxley Police District were conducting patrols on the Kamilaroi Highway at Turrawan about 11.30am on Monday, February 23, when they observed a Mazda sedan allegedly speeding and displaying incorrect number plates.

When the driver failed to stop as directed, a pursuit was initiated.

The pursuit continued into Narrabri before police lost sight of the vehicle.

The driver – a 34-year-old man – allegedly side-swiped a truck which brought the vehicle to a stop, before he was arrested by police.

Police observed the man throw a package over a nearby fence upon exiting the vehicle, and after searching the property, officers allegedly located and seized a plastic bag containing an amount of methylamphetamine.

The man was subject to roadside testing, allegedly returning a positive result to methylamphetamine.

He was arrested and taken to Narrabri Police Station where he was charged with police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously – first offence, use unregistered registrable Class A motor vehicle on road, use class A vehicle with unauthorised number plate affixed, never licensed person drive vehicle on road – first offence, possess prohibited drug, and breach of bail.

He was refused bail and faced Bail Division Court 5 on Tuesday, February 24, where he was formally refused bail to appear before Moree Local Court on Monday, March 2.
