Narrabri and Wee Waa Bowling Clubs both put round one losses behind them on Saturday as they lined up for their first home games of the 2025/26 open gender pennants campaigns and scored important victories in their respective round two fixtures.
Wee Waa welcomed South Tamworth Green to town and prevailed 63 shots to 50 overall in their grade four contest, while Narrabri challenged Manilla on home soil and got the job done 60 shots to 53 in section one of grade six.
The victories were important ones for both clubs after they had both gone down away from home against Gunnedah in the opening round a week earlier.
Wee Waa earned 8.5 out of a possible 10 points for the ladder in their victory after winning one rink, drawing another and losing the other.
Chris Crutcher, Kevin Baker, Zack Doring and Ty Baker ensured their club would get the overall victory after they beat Gavin Propsting, Roslyn Sweeney, Graeme Nicholls and Scott Sweeney 33 shots to 13, while Kay Dewson, Ben Russell, Toby Reynolds and Trinity Kelly drew 18-all with Sean O’Connor, Richard McMahon, Grant Hall and John Patterson.
Wee Waa went down 19 shots to 12 on the other rink as Brock Allen, Cody Booby, Peter Doring and Steve Berger were outplayed by Ronald Sullivan, Alan Maguire, Noel Edgar and Tim Collins.
The overall win saw Wee Waa end the weekend in third place on the ladder with 8.5 points.
Gunnedah are first with 18.5 points following two straight wins after they downed the South Tamworth Gold side 73 shots to 59 in round two, which left South Tamworth Gold in second place with 11.5 points. South Tamworth Green are last with 1.5 points.
Narrabri only won one of the three rinks in their home clash against Manilla on Saturday, but it was enough to get them the overall victory.
Cindy Neil, Tony Redman, Scott Dewar and Dave Dewar earned a 25 shots to 12 win on their rink against Trevor Ingram, Ronald Kelly, Glenn Goman and Christopher, and that 13-point margin carried them to the overall triumph.
Helen Woodward, Keith Stoltenberg, Eva Sadler and Len Ryan were defeated 18 shots to 16 by Pat Carlton, Hadley Pullin, Andrew Lovegrove and Richard Ingram on one rink, and Steve Daskey, Larry Scott, Lisa Pillar and Kevin Baguley lost 23 shots to 19 against Barry Passfield, Mitch Burns, Neill Bonnett and Daniel Lott on another.
Narrabri are in second place on nine points, 10 behind Bingara who are now two from two after defeating Gunnedah 78 shots to 37 overall in the second round. Gunnedah also have nine points and Manilla are last with three.
