A teenage boy has been charged after a loaded firearm and ammunition were seized during a motor vehicle stop in Narrabri at the weekend, said a statement released by NSW Police Media today.

Officers attached to the Traffic and Highway Patrol Command were conducting a vehicle stop in Narrabri about 8.15 pm on Saturday, June 13, when they observed a motorbike being ridden by a male, which appeared to be bogged in an embankment along Cooma Road, Narrabri.

Police attended and spoke to the 16-year-old, who was allegedly not wearing a helmet.

During a search, officers said they located a homemade firearm which was loaded with a single round of .22-calibre ammunition, a case containing 30 rounds of .22-calibre ammunition and 345 slug-gun pellets.

The teenager was arrested and taken to Narrabri Police Station, where he was charged with two counts of possessing ammunition without holding a licence, permit or authority; possessing a loaded firearm in a public place; possessing an unauthorised firearm; and possessing an unregistered firearm in a public place.

The teenager was granted strict conditional bail to appear before a children’s court on Tuesday, July 28.
