THE efforts of retiring pathology team member Ian Schweitzer have been acknowledged in state parliament.

As recently published, Ian retired from his role as collector at NSW Health Pathology’s Narrabri laboratory.

He spent the last two years as a collector with NSW Health Pathology in Narrabri, but his career stretches back to 1967 when he began as the first full-time pathology staff member at Moree Hospital before moving to the laboratory at Narrabri in the 1990s with SydPath.

Member for Barwon Roy Butler told parliament Mr Schweitzer had enjoyed a remarkable career in pathology.

“Beginning in 1967 as the first full-time pathology staff member at Moree Hospital, Ian later continued his dedicated service in Narrabri, most recently spending the past two years as a collector with NSW Health Pathology,” Mr Butler said. “Throughout his career, Ian has witnessed extraordinary changes in medical technology, yet he has remained dedicated in his commitment to compassionate patient care.

“His dedication, professionalism and willingness to go above and beyond have supported countless patients and healthcare staff across our region.

“Ian’s colleagues describe him as hardworking, generous and deeply respected, while many will fondly remember his award-winning scones, homegrown vegetables and community spirit.

“On behalf of the people of Narrabri and surrounding areas, I congratulate Ian on his outstanding contribution to rural healthcare and wish him a long, happy and well-earned retirement.”
