NARRABRI FC has suffered a 2–1 defeat to Moree Next Gen, with fatigue and injuries proving decisive in the second half of a tightly-fought contest.
Narrabri made the perfect start, with Issac Wilmott-McLawrence finding the back of the net early to hand his side the lead.
Moree responded before half-time to level the scores at 1–1, setting up a tense second half.
Narrabri continued to fight hard after the break, but the effects of fatigue and injuries eventually took their toll as Moree found the winning goal.
Lachlan Smith was recognised with the Player of the Match award after producing a strong performance, despite being required to play out of his usual position for part of the game.
Goalkeeper Zak Putra was also instrumental in keeping Narrabri in the contest, earning the Players’ Player award after making several clutch saves.
Stand-in coach Richie Axon said the final score did not reflect the effort his side put in throughout the match.
The result gives Narrabri little time to dwell on the defeat, with the side set for an immediate opportunity to bounce back.
Narrabri FC will host Moree Gen in a rematch on 22 August, where they will be looking to turn the tables on their Moree opponents.
