The Tatts Cricket Club second XI scored a 10-run win against Crossroads Hotel in round five of the 2019-20 Narrabri District Cricket Association second grade season.
Young gun Sanchit Jagadeesan was the star of the show, taking a hat-trick in the first over of his side’s defence on his way to finishing with his first five-wicket haul in senior cricket.
Tatts batted first after skipper Bill Wood won the toss and the side made 106 runs before being bowled out in the 32nd over.
Wood (31) and fellow Tatts veteran Brad Graham (33) led the way for their side with the bat while opener Ashley Watt (12) was their only teammate to reach double figures.
Crossroads’ Jason Smith was his side’s best with the ball with 3-32 from eight overs.
Wood then turned to 12-year-old Jagadeesan to bowl the first ball of the Crossroads innings and the youngster certainly delivered.
He conceded one run from the first three balls of the opening over before turning the game on its head with a brilliant hat-trick.
First he removed opener Andrew McClenaghan (0) who was caught by Denis Harvey which made the score 1-1.
That quickly became 2-1 when Jagadeesan bowled Elsie Ford for a golden duck.
Sudintha Perera was next in for Crossroads and he became Jagadeesan’s third victim, trapped in front for a golden duck which made the score 3-1 after just one over.
In the third over of the innings Jagadeesan struck again, bowling Adam Shields (6) to make the score 4-9.
That became 5-10 the next over when Guy Gleeson removed Crossroads opener Mitch Foster (1) during a wicket-maiden.
But not to be upstaged by his fellow opening bowler, Jagadeesan then produced a wicket-maiden of his own during which he trapped Ayaz Ahmad (1) in front.
Jagadeesan went on to bowl five more overs during the innings, two of which were maidens as he finished with a game-best 5-17 from eight overs.
Crossroads middle order batsman Dave McInnes (12) and tail-enders Matt Wall (15*) and John Lawlor (22) provided some resistance towards the end of the innings as Crossroads went from 9-42 to 9-96 and within 11 runs of victory.
However, in the 30th over of the innings Lawlor, who top-scored for the chasing side, was bowled by Tatts skipper Wood which secured Tatts’ second victory of the season.
Jagadeesan was awarded the three best and fairest points for a man-of-the-match performance while teammate Graham picked up two and the one went to Crossroads’ Smith.
In the other round five match RSL defeated Civeo by 30 runs.
RSL batted first after skipper Jason Trindall won the toss and it was Trindall who did the damage with the bat, scoring 69 of his team’s 109 runs.
Civeo’s Jeff Stove (3-8 from six overs) was his side’s best with the ball.
Civeo opening batsman Jake Thurston top-scored with 21 runs and skipper Kaleb Mowle (14) added some late resistance from number six but RSL was too good, knocking over the chasing side in the 17th over.
Pat Wheeler was the defending champs’ best with the ball, finishing with 4-18 from three overs.
Rod Tomlinson (3-20 from five overs), Justin Saunders (2-39 from eight overs) and Will Ford (1-0 from one over) also claimed wickets.
