Narrabri pacers excel at Tamworth meeting

The Tamworth Harness Racing Club hosted a day meeting last Thursday at the Tamworth Paceway which was attended by nine Narrabri-trained pacers.

One of those was a winner on the day while two placed and another two ran fourth.

The winner was the first Narrabri-trained pacer in action on the day, Future Fun.

The five-year-old gelding, owned by the local group of Nathan and Charles Dicks, Peter, Chris and Garry Shepherdson and Neil Drysdale, started the third race of the day one in on the second row.

Driven by Chris Shepherdson, the Garry Shepherdson-trained Future Fun secured a six-metre win in the 1980-metre Sky Active Racing pace.

The fourth race of the day was the 1609-metre Wests Entertainment Group Spring Raceday pace.

The Jarred Hetherington-trained Point Oh Five, driven by reinsman Tom Ison, started that race on the front line and placed second.

Point Oh Five looked set to win the race as he flew down the final straight, however the Anthony Missen-trained, Blake Hughes-driven Believe In Heaven got over the line first to secure a half-head victory as Point Oh Five had to settle for second.

The next race was the 1980-metre The Courts at East pace where the Jarred Hetherington-trained Overthemoon, also driven by Tom Ison, started from the front line.

Overthemoon finished that race in fourth place, about 37 metres behind the race’s winner Corbaux, driven by Blake Hughes for Clayton Harmey.

In race six, the 1980-metre Wests Diggers pace, Jake Hughes drove the winning pacer Big Bang Leonard for trainer Harmey.

The Jarred Hetherington-trained Padrisimo, driven by Tom Ison, started on the inside in the second row in that race and placed third, 20 metres back from the winner.

There were five more Narrabri pacers in action later in the meeting, none of which rode to a top-three finish.
