Is it ever too early to get ready for Christmas? Never.
Preparations are underway for the Wee Waa & District Chamber of Commerce’s popular Christmas Mardi Gras.
The spectacular Rose Street event will be held on Tuesday December 17 from 6pm and people are being encouraged to join the ‘shop local’ movement and put the date in their diaries.
“Our wonderful shops will be open for everyone to have a browse and do their Christmas shopping,” said Chamber of Commerce member Janelle Schwager.
“We’d love to see people from Wee Waa but also surrounding towns – so invite your friends and family.
“You have the chance to shop locally and win.
“We’ll have our lucky shopper vouchers – first prize $1000 and second prize of $500 dollars will be drawn at the Mardi Gras – you must be present to win.
“It would be fabulous to see lots of stall holders down the street too, we welcome all stall holders, please contact Roxanne Whitton for more information and stall bookings on 0408 419 800.”
It’s a street party ‘not to be missed’ with lots of fun for families too including face painting and a jumping castle.
The Lions Club’s legendary chocolate wheel will be spinning, Rotary members will be serving up their signature barbecue meals and the crowd can kick back and relax to tunes from the Wee Waa Community Band, while they wait for the ‘jolly man in red’ – Santa Claus to arrive.
The Mardi Gras will also debut a new section – the inaugural Wee Waa Art and Culture Hub exhibition, to will be held at the Rose Street Gardens.
“We are inviting artists who would like to exhibit and, or sell their work.
“The more exhibits the better.”
And the Wee Waa News will have more about the art event in a future edition.
As well as planning the Mardi Gras, the Wee Waa Chamber of Commerce recently held its annual general meeting at the Imperial Hotel on October 29.
Fifteen people attended the meeting and the following office bearers were elected: president Ann-Maree Galagher, vice-president John Tully, secretary Sonia Fogarty, treasurer Lara Seccombe and publicity officer Janelle Schwager.
“A welcome and thank you was extended to John Tully and Lara Seccombe as new committee members and for taking on the roles,” said Janelle.
“The committee is now looking forward to a productive 2019/2020.
“Members extended a thank you to president Ann-Maree and secretary Sonia for their commitment and hard work throughout the past year.
“It is much appreciated by both members and the community.”
As advertised please contact Gerda Vogel for more information about the art exhibition 0428 831 381.
