Round seven of Narrabri Touch Inc’s 2019-20 season was contested at the Cooma Oval fields on Monday evening.
All 10 matches scheduled to be played went ahead as the teams competed in the final games of the calendar year.
The summer competition will now break for the Christmas/holiday period, with round eight matches to kick start the action for 2020 on Monday, February 3.
In round seven there were four ladies’ matches contested, one of which saw the undefeated Agies Ladies continue their dominant campaign.
In their fifth game of the season Agies Ladies defeated BPR 15-0. Bella Cruickshank crossed for four tries in her team’s win, Eileen Roberts scored a hat-trick, Alisha Conomos and Martha Harvey bagged doubles and Tashanny Clark, Cathy Conomos, Tyanna Gaydon and Jamilah Kidd all went over once each. Agies Ladies have won all five of their 2019-20 matches a combined 64-4 following 13-0, 17-2, 14-0, 5-2 and 15-0 victories.
The ladies’ competition’s other undefeated side, Redbacks, was also a winner in round seven. Redbacks took on Xtra and scored an 8-1 victory which saw April Smith claim a hat-trick, Shaine Baker and Emma John both cross for doubles and Erika Meppem touch down for the other try. Xtra’s only try of the game was scored by Emma Cain. That victory was Redbacks’ sixth of the season. Following 4-1, 7-3, 13-0, 6-3, 9-3 and 8-1 wins they have won a combined 47-11 in the 2019-20 campaign.
In the third ladies’ match played in round seven, Specialised Civil outscored Phoenix Two390 9-1. Four of Specialised Civil’s nine tries were scored by Abby McClure, while teammate Jessie Schwager bagged a double and Laura Baguley, Angie Knox and Sophie McFarland scored a try each. Phoenix Two390’s try was claimed by Cassidy Staines.
In the fourth and final ladies’ game of the evening Hounddogs defeated RSL Roulettes 4-0. Hounddogs’ four tries were shared between Lauren Brown, Gabby Chaffey, Jess McFetridge and Megan O’Brien.
In one of the first men’s Pool A matches played in round seven, Gee Bangers scored a big win against Mowley’s Maniacs. There were six different tryscorers for Gee Bangers in an 8-1 victory, with Hayden Bell and Andrew Harvey both bagging doubles and Michael Cain, Mark Jaques, Nathan Nott and Peter Quirk all crossing for a try each. Kaleb Mowle was Mowley’s Maniacs’ only try scorer.
In a much closer Pool A game DTA Lumberjacks narrowly defeated ODAPS 5-3. James Albert and Matt McDonnell went over for two tries each for the Lumberjacks and teammate Rodney Dunlop scored the other. ODAPS’ tries were claimed by Jaylen Sharpley, who crossed twice, and Jonty Fowler.
In the third and final men’s Pool A game the undefeated Grumley Builders downed Ballbusters 5-1. Hamish Duncan and Hayden Grumley both scored two tries each for Grumley Builders and teammate Luke Tuckey crossed for the other. Ballbusters’ Ian Gourley scored his team’s try. That victory saw Grumley Builders score their sixth straight win during a run where they have outscored their opponents a combined 41-7.
In the men’s pool B competition One23 Cafe defeated Hidden Talent 5-3 in the first game of the round. One23’s Craig Gleeson claimed a hat-trick in his side’s win and teammate Brendon Warnock crossed twice. Hidden Talent’s three tries were shared between Bernard Gabbott, Jordan Harvey and Lachlan Trindall.
In the second Pool B game, Win or Booze scored a dominant 11-1 win against Stylies. Eight different players got on the scoresheet for Win or Booze. Connor Hill, Kalab McMillan and Brock Schwager all bagged doubles, and the other five tries were shared between Cooper Brayshaw, Sam Cain, Jess O’Neil, Keegan Richardson and Jonty Schwager. Stylies’ try was scored by Michael Brooks.
In the third and final Pool B match Damien Chiplin Plumbing and Cougars could not be separated when full time arrived, with the two sides playing out a 3-all draw. Cougars’ tries were shared between Brenton Cochrane, Braedon Mason-Kelly and David Toomey, while Damien Chiplin Plumbing’s Jayden Hayne bagged a double for his side and teammate Josh Ambrose scored the other.
