Four of the five Narrabri District Cricket Association second grade season sides are scheduled to play their last games of the calendar year this Saturday in round 11 of the second grade one day competition.
Crossroads played its last match of the year last Saturday when it smashed Tatts by eight wickets to earn its first victory of the season.
This Saturday, Tatts will be determined to bounce back from that loss when it takes on Civeo at Hogan Oval, while first-placed RSL takes on the Western Imperial Razorbacks at Collins Park.
Those matches will only be played if weather permits, with high temperatures threatening to force the NDCA to cancel the games should it get too hot.
Should this weekend’s play go ahead, one player will pad up needing just 13 runs to reach the 500-run mark.
Civeo’s Matt Potter has been in top form this season having already blasted 487 runs in just five innings at an average of 121.75.
In his past three matches he has opened the batting each time and scored centuries on all three occasions.
He registered his top score of the season on Saturday in a three-wicket loss against RSL.
Civeo batted first in that match and Potter smashed 19 fours and eight sixes on his way to a game-best 153 runs, 60 per cent of his team’s 252-run total.
In round eight Potter opened the batting against the Western Imperial Razorbacks and scored an unbeaten 107 which was 66 per cent of his team’s runs as Civeo scored 163 for the loss of just three wickets to win by seven wickets.
Potter’s impressive run of centuries began against Crossroads in round seven on November 30 when he scored 75 per cent of his team’s 166 runs to finish with 125 in a 40-run win.
Earlier in the season he registered scores of 85 and 14 in round three (against the Razorbacks) and round six (against Tatts) respectively.
Another big score this weekend would lay the platform for Potter to surpass the largest season total in the second grade competition since electronic results have been kept, which was set by Cody Kember in the 2017-18 season.
Kember, who played for Civeo at the time, scored 898 runs in 14 innings in that campaign, with a high score of 149 and at an average of 89.8.
Potter has already surpassed that high score and is currently cruising at a higher average, so the only question now is, can he break Kember’s record?
