The Tarriaro bridge, once described by former Member for Barwon Kevin Humphries as ‘one of the most dangerous bridges in the region’ is gone.

Construction of a modern two lane bridge to replace the old single lane structure is expected to be finished by April.

With mining developments and other growth in traffic, the number of vehicles using the Tarriaro crossing has grown exponentially in recent years.

Local residents and road users warned of the danger posed by the single lane bridge, with skid marks and damage to the approaches testament to the potential for accidents.

The Council received $1,780,800 in funding from the NSW Government’s Restart NSW Resources for Regions fund for the new bridge with the Council co-contributing $763,200.

The now demolished Tarriaro bridge was built in 1975.

Remnant timber piles, perhaps from an earlier bridge just upstream of the 1975 structure, are still visible.
