Narrabri Clay Target Club’s January shoot was an opportunity for shooters to be graded under the new Australian Clay Target Association rules for Double Rise.
Double Rise is an event where two targets are thrown at the same time in different directions and the shooter has one shot at each target.
Double Rise is not a new event, however it now has its own handicap system.
It is one of the more difficult trap disciplines – as the new shooters discovered.
There were 27 shooters present and of those five were newcomers to the sport.
The cooler conditions provided some good scores.
Shooters travelled from Moree, Narrabri, Lightning Ridge, Texas, Goondiwindi and Chinchilla.
The results are as follows:
Event one – 25pr Double Rise 15m:
AA-grade – first – Brian Kneipp, (Moree) with 45/50, second – Malcolm Collins (Chinchilla) with 40/50.
A-grade – first – Grant Lowien (Moree) with 54/60, second – Dimity Hook (Moree) with 53/60, following a shoot off.
B-grade – first – Frank Hedley (Narrabri) with 36/50, second – Wal Friend (Lightning Ridge) with 32/50.
C-grade – first – David Lemmon (Moree) with 21/50.

Work is recommencing on the replacement of the Narrabri Clay Target Club’s shooting layouts.
The project is part of Narrabri Shire Council’s Sporting Grants for 2019-20, which has helped clubs all across the community rebuild and renovate.
The next shoot will be held on Sunday, February 16, commencing at 9am.
