THIS week’s Narrabri High School spotlight is on music.
Year 9 student Declan Condran only started playing piano late last year, but NHS music teacher Rod Ritchie described his progress as “nothing short of remarkable”.
“He approaches every lesson with determination and supplements his learning with daily lunchtime practice, demonstrating exceptional dedication,” said Mr Ritchie.
“His musical abilities have developed at an extraordinary pace, and he now performs at a level that would allow him to contribute confidently to a musical ensemble.
“While he is modest and quiet, his talent and commitment speak volumes.”
In year 10, Mr Ritchie sang the praises of music students Eli Clarke and Dominic Calsena.

“Eli and Dominic have made impressive progress since they began learning instruments at the start of year 9 in 2025,” he said.
“Their dedication to daily rehearsals and their growing proficiency in playing a variety of instruments, as well as their public performances, including notable events like playing for the Governor of NSW and at presentation night, demonstrate commendable commitment and talent.
“Beyond technical skill, their expressive playing and sensitivity to musical nuances set them apart, allowing them to bring pieces to life and engage audiences effectively.
“Additionally, their willingness to support other musicians and vocalists at the school highlights their collaborative spirit and leadership in the school music community.”
