Rugby clubs pay tribute to Mark Bode

RUGBY clubs across the North West have paid tribute to senior sports journalist Mark Bode

after his death in a vehicle collision.

The Northern Daily Leader reporter, who was well-known for his people-focused sports stories, died in the recent three-car crash at Somerton, between Gunnedah and Tamworth.

Clubs acknowledged Bode’s passionate support for country sport.

“For many years, Mark was a passionate supporter of country sport, dedicating his time to shining a light on local clubs, players and volunteers,” Gunnedah Rugby League Football Club said.

“For many years, Mark was a familiar face at rugby league games across the region.

“More often than not you would see him sitting quietly inside the fence capturing the moments that meant so much to our communities.

“His commitment to grassroots rugby league and regional sport has left a lasting impact on communities across our region.”

Narrabri Rugby League Football Club expressed similar sentiment and praised his journalistic abilities.

“Mark was a common sight across the Group’s games, known for his human-touch personal stories about players, including many Blues over the years,” the club said.

Tamworth Rugby Union Sporting Club paid tribute to Bode with a moment’s silence before the weekend’s First Grade game.

“Mark was a familiar and valued presence at Tamworth Rugby Park. At our last home game, he was sitting quietly behind the goalposts, watching the match and capturing special moments through his camera,” the club said following Bode’s death.

“Mark’s human interest stories touched many people. He had a wonderful way of sharing the stories of members of the Magpie family, celebrating the people who make our club and community so special.”
