A quick-thinking Narrabri resident likely saved a vacant house from being engulfed in flames yesterday evening.

Narrabri Fire and Rescue NSW was alerted to a possible house fire on the corner of Saunders and Hogan Streets at 4.17pm yesterday.

On arrival the FRNSW noticed smoke inside the property and was able to extinguish the house’s external electrical attachment using a hose line.

Wearing breathing apparatuses firefighters gained entry by forcing the front door open to check if the fire had spread inside the roof cavity.

Ambulance paramedics and Essential Energy arrived on the scene to assist FRNSW.

“There was only minor damage to the residence thanks to the quick-thinking of a passerby,” said station
commander Shane Bradford.

“He was just passing by and saw the sparks and the flames and dialed triple zero straight away. He did that immediately.

“We were on the scene for about an hour and a half before Essential Energy arrived on the scene to render it safe and disconnect power.”
