Golfing tragics will be pleased to learn that Club Narrabri is opening the Narrabri Golf Course for social golf from this Friday, May 8.

It will be the first time the course has been open for golf since Club Narrabri announced its temporary closure on Thursday, March 26.

Club Narrabri chief executive Paul Gordon advised The Courier that the golf course would re-open under strict COVID-19 guidelines.

“To play golf, patrons will need to book a game via telephone by calling 0417 253 264 and follow the social distancing rules that we have in place,” Mr Gordon said.

Groups will be limited to two players, with only one person permitted per golf cart.

Players will be allocated tee off times between 8am and 2pm from Wednesday to Sunday and are asked to be ready 15 minutes prior to their allocated time. The course will remain closed on Monday and Tuesday until further notice.

Staff members and course marshals will patrol the course ensuring that patrons adhere to the government’s social distancing laws.

Golfers will not be able to touch flag pins or bunker rakes and will be asked to vacate the grounds at the completion of their game, for their own safety.

“We are expecting a surge in eager golfers who have been champing at the bit to play golf,” Mr Gordon said.

The golf match committee will be closely monitoring the resumption in play, with a view to running competition golf as the pandemic abates.

“If everyone does the right thing, we will gradually reduce the restrictions and get back into full swing,” Mr Gordon said.

“The health and wellbeing of our golfing members and guests is our main consideration at this stage, so we will hasten slowly.”

There has been no indication from government as to when the RSL Club and Golfie will be able to re-open their licenced premises and resume normal trade.
