Hunter New England Health District midwives joined via Skype this week to celebrate International Midwives Day on Tuesday, May 5.
The theme this year was – ‘Midwives with women: celebrate, demonstrate, mobilise, unite – our time is NOW’.
Midwives work with women everyday offering care and support during their childbirth journey.
“Today marks the day that we recognise midwives in Narrabri who ensure maternal, foetal and newborn health and wellbeing,” acting nurse unit manager Alysse Pownall said yesterday.
“Our maternity services offer the safest care in the right place for all women and their babies.
“Midwives are the number one advocate for women and their unborn child and ensure they are offered a safe, calm and well supported birth.”
International Nurses Day will be marked next week.
