Maintenance being undertaken in the Narrabri Aquatic Centre’s indoor pool is progressing well with the retiling almost completed.
The pool now requires time for the expansion joints to dry out before the pool can be refilled.
Once refilled, the chlorination process will be initiated and reheating of the pool will commence.
It is expected given the time required in most of the remaining processes, the indoor pool will be operational early July.
Narrabri Shire Council parks and open spaces manager Evan Harris said he was pleased at how quickly the tiling was progressing.
“We brought forward scheduled major maintenance on the indoor pool while the government COVID-19 restrictions were in place as it was an opportunity to complete these works with minimal disruption to the public who were unable to use the facility at this time,” he said.
“We had hoped to have the maintenance completed, pool filled up and reheated prior to the government lifting restrictions however, this has not been possible due to the time intensive steps required to bring the pool back into service.
“We did take the risk in commencing this project not knowing when the restrictions would be eased and have been chipping away at maintenance to the indoor pool for over a month now which is four weeks worth of swimming that the community have not missed due to the forced closure of the facility.
“We understand there are many of our patrons looking forward to the facility reopening for a variety of reasons which is why we have staff and local contractors working extremely hard behind the scenes prioritising the indoor pool requirements before moving on to maintenance on the splash pad and outdoor pool.”
The indoor pool was due for scheduled maintenance. In fact, it has not been closed to the public for this level of maintenance since opening in 2013.
Narrabri Shire Council said that it appreciated the community’s patience as this necessary work is completed.
“We look forward to greeting our patrons back into facility very soon,” a council statement said.
