Greyhound owners across the state will have their registration fees waived for another 12 months, following a decision by the NSW Government.
Nationals Upper House MP, Sam Farraway said the fee waivers would help greyhound owners who have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Due to necessary measures in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19, racing has been a spectator-less sport, meaning revenue for the industry has been significantly reduced,” Mr Farraway said.
“This has had knock-on effects to prizemoney for greyhound owners, whose outgoings have remained the same.”
The measures will deliver close to $340,000 worth of fee waivers for greyhound owners in NSW.
Farraway said the measures would help greyhound owners across NSW during one of the hardest economic challenges of our lifetime.
“Every dollar counts in these difficult times and this measure will be a big relief for every Greyhound owner in NSW.”
The fee waivers will apply for 12 month registrations falling due on 1 July 2020.
Meanwhile there were six Narrabri Shire-trained greyhounds in action at a twilight TAB meeting at Gunnedah last Wednesday.
In race nine Narrabri’s Robert Hobson oversaw Bazza’s Babe (box sixth) race to a second-place finish.
Bazza’s Babe jumped well and led early but the eventual winner Vista Inferno (box five) quickly went out in front and stayed there until the end.
Bazza’s Babe finished three-and-a-quarter lengths behind Vista Inferno in second place. The three-year-old bitch was the only Narrabri Shire-trained greyhound to race to a top-three finish at the meeting.
