Northern NSW Football recently announced that Narrabri’s Danny Laws was Northern Inland Football’s Newcastle Permanent referee of the month for October 2020.

This year, Narrabri Junior Soccer president Laws’ days did not finish after the last junior game was played each Saturday morning – he was also a dedicated referee during the 2020 Namoi Soccer League season.

NIF said that Laws officiates matches and has shown true dedication and passion for the game while giving players, coaches and spectators the best experience possible.

He played for Namoi Soccer League side Narrabri FC in previous years but took up the whistle full-time this year to help ensure fixtures in the competition were covered with match officials.

NIF said that Laws communicates well with players and has a great understanding of the game.

He has also encouraged new match officials to step up this year and have a go.

Law’s contribution to referees in the Namoi League this year saw him nominated for the award.

“Danny’s contribution to the game through his role as a match official has been wonderful,” NNSWF senior officer community football Ross Hicks said.

“Referees are vital to the enjoyment of the game by players, coaches and spectators alike and Danny has shown that he takes this responsibility very seriously.

“I congratulate Danny on his award on behalf of NNSWF and all players, coaches and spectators across the state.”

Newcastle Permanent Tamworth branch manager Julie Callander congratulated Laws on becoming the recipient of the referee of the month award.

“Newcastle Permanent’s referee of the month award recognises referees and match officials across northern NSW for their important role in community football,” Callander said.

“We hope these awards encourage greater respect and appreciation for the difficult job they have of ensuring a safe and fair playing environment for everyone.”

Laws received a referee spray jacket, cap, water bottle and a referee card set to assist in fulfilling his valuable duties on and off the field.
