The 2020 West Entertainment Group Rugby League Nines competition’s grand final will have a Narrabri flavour to it if Carey’s Freight Lines can continue its undefeated run and win a seventh straight game to qualify for the inaugural decider on Saturday.

Carey’s Freight Lines is captained by former Narrabri Blues captain-coach Brenton Cochrane and includes Narrabri Blues players Jacob Nichols, Lachlan Trindall, Jock Small and Isaiah Adams.

The Narrabri boys and their teammates have enjoyed a memorable three-round regular season in which they won all six of their games a combined 102-56 to finish first on the ladder with a maximum 12 points.

In an elimination semi-final this Saturday at Scully Park, Tamworth, Carey’s Freight Lines will challenge the winless Shay Brennan Constructions which finished fourth on the ladder.

The winner will advance to the grand final that evening where they will meet either second-placed Marius Street Family Dental of third-placed JT Fossey which will go head-to-head in the other elimination semi-final.

The losers of the two semi-finals will challenge one another in a third-placed playoff match.

Carey’s Freight Lines continued their domination of the inaugural competition during the third and final round of the regular season which was played on Saturday, October 17, at Scully Park.

The side scored two victories to stretch its undefeated streak to six games.

Carey’s Freight Lines took on second-placed Marius Street Family Dental in its first of two matches on that evening and was inspired by Cochrane to a 16-11 win.

The Narrabri man dominated the game to earn three man-of-the-match points to take his season total to nine, the best in the competition after that match.

Adams crossed for one try and teammates Brayden Reid (Kootingal), Jamarley Jerrard (Kootingal), Nathaneal Slater (Werris Creek) all went over for a try each.

Carey’s Freight Lines then took on the winless Shay Brennan Constructions in the last game of the regular season and scored a 13-5 victory.

Cochrane scored one of his side’s tries, Reid went over for another and Clay Frendin (Dungowan) crossed for a five-point try which was assisted by Cochrane.
