The Narrabri Rugby Club’s women’s sevens side got in on the Santos Festival of Rugby on-field action when it played two matches at Dangar Park last Friday afternoon.

The home team went head-to-head with the Tamworth Pirates in those games, which the visitors won 29-7 and 24-5.

Despite going down in both games, the Blue Boars side shows many positive signs ahead of the 2021 Central North Rugby Union season.

Will Guest, the team’s coach, told The Courier he was impressed with the side’s efforts as well as its improvement from game one to two.

The team included several debutants, some playing their first game for the club and others playing for the first time ever.

In the first game, the hosts were down 22-0 at the half-time break, but refused to give up and scored the first points of the second stanza when Clariese Ryman ran 80 metres to score a superb long range try which made the score 22-7.

In the second game, the Blue Boars started a lot stronger and found themselves down just 7-0 at the break.

The Pirates added 17 points in the second half before April Smith got Narrabri on the board with a try in the final seconds of the game.
