Narrabri Rugby League Football Club’s senior men’s squad continued its pre-season preparations with a gruelling three-hour fitness session on Saturday morning.
The boot camp style session was led by Blues player and local personal trainer Hayden Bell who had organised drills to be completed all across Narrabri.
The 15km journey kicked off at Collins Park where the squad completed a fitness circuit.
They then ran down past the Narrabri RSL Club and onto Fitzroy Street where they carried tyres.
It was then onto Little Mountain where the players pushed themselves through hill sprints, which by all reports was the most difficult drill.
The players then ran to The Crossing Theatre lawn where they completed some team-based activities including carrying and dragging their teammates along the grass.
They finished with a final run back to Collins Park where they enjoyed a barbecue lunch.
Narrabri Blues captain-coach Jake Rumsby told The Courier that he was pleased with the efforts of the 14 players who participated.
“We wanted to do something a bit different this year,” Rumsby said.
“We are lucky to have Hayden Bell in our team. He’s a personal trainer and was part of the army for a number of years.
“We came up with the idea to do a boot camp and I think the boys enjoyed it.
“It worked out to be about 15km, it was tough but enjoyable. I’d actually like to do it again and I’d like to make it an annual thing for the club.
“All the boys who were there on the day gave 100 per cent, I was very proud of them actually, everyone finished it.
“There were more blokes who wanted to be there who had work commitments or were away.”
The Blues will take on the Moree Boars at Collins Park in round one of the 2021 Group 4 Rugby League season on either Saturday, May 1, or Sunday, May 2.
Rumsby said that he and everyone at the club were excited for the season to begin and he encouraged players to get to training each Wednesday and Friday.
The Blues will play at least one trial game before round one. Trial details will be announced in the coming weeks.
