It was goals galore at Gately Field on Saturday when Narrabri hosted a Namoi region ladies’ soccer gala day.

The event was held to celebrate last week’s International Women’s Day and NSW Women’s Week and to also promote women’s soccer in the Namoi region.

Thirty ladies signed up to play, which meant that five teams of six women competed in four round robin format games each at the event.

No scores were kept on the day, it was all about having fun, enjoying the sport and meeting new people.

Ladies from across the Narrabri Shire and Moree played on the day.

They were joined by Northern NSW Football’s Kick-On for Women project officer Michelle Forbes and female participation and inclusion officer Annelise Rosnell who travelled from Newcastle to be a part of the event.

Event organiser Sam Lubke-Wood, who also played on the day, told The Courier that it was a fun morning of soccer and said that she was excited to see how far the ladies’ game would grow in Narrabri in both 2021 and beyond.

She also thanked all of the ladies who played on the day as well as the sponsors and everyone who helped out either before of during the event.
