Boggabri and District Rugby League Football Club’s season launch golf day was a great success at the Boggabri Golf Club on Saturday.

Thirteen teams enjoyed a three-person ambrose match played across nine holes in which players bonded with each other, had fun and showed support for all levels of their club.

One of the winning sides included a trio of new signings in Kaylan Murray, Josh Trindall and Raymond Goodwin, who tied for first with Benny Burns, Jarod Adams, and Rowan Keeler.

The club hosted the golf day just one week after the sides played their first trial games of the year.

In Coonabarabran on Saturday, March 13, Boggabri went down 46-26 in the men’s match and 16-14 in the ladies’ league tag game.

Club president Greg Haire said things were looking good for the Kangaroos in 2021.

“I can’t wait for the season to get going,” Haire said.

“The boys are training well and last week’s trial showed that we have the potential to do well this season.

“The girls have showed that they have the ball skills and now if they can up their fitness, they will be a force to be reckoned with this season.”

Haire said that Saturday’s season launch was a great day.

“The weather was beautiful, the course is in great condition and thank you to the ladies for the tea, fellows for cooking the barbecue, the ladies behind the bar and of course the cold beverages on offer around the course.”

When announcing the winners of the day it was revealed that the scores were extremely close.

The two teams (pictured above) tied for first with a score of net 21, another team finished with a score of net 22, and three teams totalled net 23.

As it was a fun afternoon, they didn’t conduct countbacks, and all teams were awarded trophies.

First grade coach Shane Rampling was quick to praise and thank the volunteers and supporters.

He said the players really appreciated the support.

Rampling welcomed the club’s new players from Narrabri and Gunnedah on board and thanked them for their dedication.

“It is evident in training how keen you are, and I appreciate the effort you put into travelling and training,” Rampling said on Saturday.

“Last weekend was a good hit out, and I’m excited to start the season.

“We need to build numbers at training, and we still have few to start.”

New signing Kaylan Murray said he was excited to be playing for Boggabri and that he was looking forward to the season.

Meanwhile, three generations of the Chandler family played together on Saturday at the Boggabri Golf Club.

Ray, who plays golf in the veterans division, his son Warwick and grandson, Lachlan all teamed up. When asked what his father’s handicap was, Warwick gave a big grin and said, “us,” pointing to himself and his son.
