Wee Waa Bowling Club hosted its 2021 A-grade men’s Club Triples final on Saturday which was won by the team of Steve Berger, Peter Doring and Ross Smith.
Berger, Doring and Smith challenged Justin Knight and Bruce and Todd Cowan in the decider and the two teams produced an eye-catching display of bowls in cold and windy conditions as the game came down to the wire.
The final score was 23-21 to Berger’s team.
The eventual winners won eight of the first 10 ends, but incredibly the scoreboard read 9-all at that point.
Knight’s team scored a four on the seventh end then a five on the 10th while their opponents scored a two and seven single shots to open the game.
Knight’s team established an 11-9 lead after the 11th end which was its first of the game, then it led 16-13 after 16 ends.
Berger’s team evened the score at 16-all on the 18th end, but Knight and his teammates led by three again after 20 ends following a two which made the score 19-16.
Berger’s team won the next three ends while accumulating seven points to go ahead 23-19 with two ends to play.
Knight’s team won both of those ends but fell two short as Berger’s team held on to win 23-21.
