The future is certainly bright for soccer in Narrabri, with the next generation currently excelling in the junior ranks.
On Sunday, seven Narrabri girls competed at Gunnedah and District Soccer Association’s inaugural all-girls inter-club gala day alongside teams from across the region including Moree, Quirindi, Tamworth and Coonabarabran.
Narrabri returned home victorious following an undefeated campaign in the under-11/12 division.
Ava Smith, Lily McCahon, Paganne Ryman, Chelsey Stait, Fleur Eather, Tilly Gleeson and Kiara Vlahopoulos teamed up on the day.
The girls played in a seven-team division and competed against all opposition sides once.
They won five of their six games and remarkably kept a clean sheet in all five. They drew their other match 1-1, which saw them earn 16 of a possible 18 points to finish the day on top of the table to be crowned champions.
In a post on Facebook, Gunnedah and District Soccer Association said that it was “blown away” to have 25 teams compete at its inaugural all-girls inter-club gala day.
“It was a beautiful sunny day and such an incredible atmosphere yesterday,” the club said.
“It was amazing to see almost 200 girls aged between 7 and 15 enjoying themselves and having such a great day of soccer.
“Congratulations to our winning teams and runners-up and to all the teams for participating and making the day so much fun.
“We’d like to thank each and every player (and families) who made the effort to attend and all the coaches for organising and managing the teams on the day.”
Narrabri Junior Soccer will host its annual carnival this Sunday at Gately Fields.
