The Inner Wheel Club of Narrabri celebrated a year of success at its changeover dinner at the Tourist Hotel last Tuesday night.
Members and guests celebrated president Kath Hamilton’s year at the club’s helm.
Mrs Hamilton was unable to attend the dinner, however, a report was presented on her behalf.
In her report, Mrs Hamilton said the ever-present threat of COVID did not prevent the club from achieving the three objectives of Inner Wheel.
Inner Wheel’s objectives are to promote true friendship, encourage the ideals of personal service and to foster international understanding.
Mrs Hamilton said members were able to continue meeting in COVID-safe settings.
Among the club’s achievements in the past 12 months were its work to get a colposcopy unit at the Narrabri Hospital, a successful Sean’s Two for Ten Walk and an equally successful Yum Cha fundraiser at On Lee to raise money for a mothers’ and babies’ hospital in Nepal.
The colposcopy unit is a work in progress and the club is awaiting further information on the unit.
The hospital is a project of Dr Ray Hodgson, a specialist gynaecologist based at Coffs Harbour, and the charity the organisation he founded, Australians for Women’s Health.
At last week’s celebratory dinner, Carolynne Tomlinson lit the candle of friendship and Joan Burrell-Melbourne proposed a toast to International Inner Wheel.
Barbara Murphy read the collect.
Jenni Hayne presented the loyal toast before Inner Wheel members and guests said grace.
Honoured active members Joan Burrell-Melbourne, Marie Keys and Ros Hall were presented with their badges and a rose each.
The accolade recognises their outstanding service to Inner Wheel.
Gifts from outgoing president Kath Hamilton were then presented to each committee member, thanking their dedication in the past year.
Following the presentation to the outgoing committee, Marilyn Collins was inducted as a member of the club.
Incoming president Tricia Hadley was inducted as president and the new committee for the next 12 months was introduced.
Joining Mrs Hadley as office bearers are past president Kath Hamilton, senior vice president Barbara Murphy, junior vice president Marilyn Collins, correspondence secretary Jenni Hayne, minutes secretary Elizabeth Spicer, treasurer Pat Norrie, social convenor Di Smith, club historian and public officer Jenny Cable and committee member Joy Read.
