The Namoi Soccer League’s 2021 season preliminary finals will be played at Wee Waa’s Cook Oval on Saturday afternoon if the Narrabri and Moree LGAs’ lockdowns are lifted and community sport is given the green light to return.
Northern NSW Northern Football – Northern Inland advised clubs on Tuesday that its plan was for the knock-out games to go ahead this weekend followed by the grand finals at Narrabri’s Hogan Oval on Saturday, September 4.
Those two weeks of finals were originally scheduled to be played on August 21 and 28 respectively but were postponed amid the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdowns.
Should those lockdowns again be extended for either or both of the two LGAs, the finals series will again be postponed.
NNSWF – Northern Inland advised that its intention was to host a grand final in 2021, but said that it would be played no later than Saturday, September 18. That means that preliminary finals must be played before Saturday, September 11.
Should the lockdowns be lifted between September 11 and 18, grand finals for both reserve and first grade will likely be played by the teams ranked first and second on the respective ladders.
Should the preliminary finals go ahead this Saturday, second-placed Wee Waa United will host third-placed Moree Services FC in first grade and second-placed Narrabri FC will challenge third-played Wee Waa United in reserve grade.
Meanwhile, Narrabri Junior Soccer’s 2021 season could also resume on Saturday if the Narrabri lockdowns are lifted and community sport is able to return.
“Please be aware that restrictions such as one parent per player, arrive-play-leave etc may be in place, we are unsure how it will look coming out of lockdown,” the association’s president Danny Laws said.
“I will keep you up to date as we receive information from both NSW Health and Office of Sport.”
