The late John Goodyer, who passed away aged 87 on Wednesday, September 29, will be remembered for his service to the community.

Mr Goodyer was a well-respected figure in the Narrabri community as a businessman and for his many involvements in local organisations.

One of his most extensive contributions to the town was through the Rotary Club of Narrabri.

Mr Goodyer joined the club in 1974 and was at its helm in 1995/96 as president.

His dedication to Rotary’s ideals saw Mr Goodyer awarded a Paul Harris Fellowship in 2015.

The Rotary Club held a minute’s silence at its dinner meeting last Thursday night in memory of its esteemed former Rotarian.

In his earlier life, Mr Goodyer was involved with Apex.

Another of his community involvements was with the Narrabri District Hospital Board.

But for many in Narrabri in years gone by, Mr Goodyer will be particularly remembered for operating Krohns Shoe Store which had been conducted by his family for many years.

Mr Goodyer was predeceased by his wife, Pam, who died on December 22 last year.

He is survived by his son, Michael, and three daughters, Jayne, Julie and Susan, and their families.

A private funeral service was conducted earlier this week in line with COVID-19 restrictions.
