COVID-19 restrictions might have caused the cancellation of the much-loved Wee Waa Show this year, but the 2021 Showgirl announcements were still able to take place thanks to the hard work of a dedicated committee.

The Wee Waa Show Society held its annual general meeting on Saturday and hosted a community barbeque afterwards, which included the naming of Georgia Dickinson as Wee Waa’s 2021 senior Showgirl and Amelia Kiem as Wee Waa’s junior Showgirl.

Both young women are fantastic advocates for the region, and were humbled and excited to be ‘sashed’ as the town’s next Showgirl representatives.

“I would just like to start by thanking everyone who has made it here today, it’s really great to see so many people come to show their support for all the Showgirl entrants,” said Georgia.

“It’s an honour to be given the opportunity to represent our show society and wider community.

“I would like to thank the members of our Showgirl committee, especially Sue Smith and Georgie Haire who have worked very hard in organising the Showgirl competition and for being so supportive throughout the process.”

“I would also like to thank our overall show society committee for all of the time and effort they have put in over the last year and previous years.,” said 2021 Wee Waa Showgirl Georgia Dickinson.

“Seeing first-hand how hard everyone has worked in order to organise our annual show has been a real eye opener, and despite the fact that COVID has gotten in our way the last couple of years, I’m confident that our 2022 show will come back bigger and better than before,” added Georgia.

“I would also like to say a quick thank you and congratulations to all our Showgirl entrants this year, both in the junior and senior divisions.

“You have all presented yourselves so well and should be proud of yourselves as I truly believe all of the girls taking part this year would have made fantastic representatives for the community.

“It has been a privilege to be a part of the process with you all and I look forward to possibly seeing you all get on board with our show society in the future.

“Many hands make light work and it would be fantastic to get some younger people involved in the planning of future shows.”

Wee Waa’s 2021 junior Showgirl Amelia Kiem expressed similar sentiments regarding the support of community members, the show committee along with Sue Smith and Georgie Haire, who she said have all helped to make her Showgirl experience so wonderful.

“I’m very excited and this is a great opportunity to gain public speaking and interviewing skills – it’s just a great opportunity,” Amelia told the Wee Waa News.

“It’s been so fun to do it with the other girls, it’s really made it having more people involved.”

At Saturday’s event, the Wee Waa Show Society also presented Brett Dickinson and Sue Smith with honorary life membership for their invaluable service.

Bec Cope announced Georgie Haire and Georgia Dickinson were both recipients of the Agricultural Societies Council of NSW’s Next gen. award.

Bec Cope attended Saturday’s meeting in her role as Group 14 Next Gen. delegate

The ASC of NSW Next Gen committee is the ‘youthful extension’ of ASC and aims to provide guidance and support through collaboration and education.

Each show group within NSW has a Next Gen delegate whom attends and supports a show in their area.

The Next Gen award is presented to individuals nominated by their local show society in recognition of their contributions.

Georgia and Georgie were nominated by Wee Waa Show Society for their efforts in light of the cancellation of the 2021 Wee Waa Show.

“They are both deserving recipients of this award,” added Bec.
