Local shoppers and businesses were the big winners from The Courier and Wee Waa News’ ‘It’s time to invest in the best … Shop in our shire this Christmas’ promotion.

The newspapers’ annual Christmas promotion, which sees millions of dollars spent at local participating businesses, was drawn and celebrated at the Narrabri Chamber of Commerce’s Christmas street carnival on Thursday evening.

This year’s promotion was again sponsored by Santos and local community radio station 2MaxFM.

The chance purchase of some new furniture from Maitland Street retailer Logan & Co saw Noah Platt claim first prize in the
promotion.

Noah, the son of Dwain and Amanda Platt, wins $2000 to spend in participating stores. Noah is a university student and lives on his family’s farm near Pilliga.

His name was drawn from the barrel by Santa Claus last Thursday night in the finale to the 10-week shop local promotion.

And because his winning purchase was made at Logan & Co, the business wins $1000 cash.

This year, The Courier Christmas shopping promotion saw 21 local, shire businesses participating and one hundred thousand tickets, representing millions of dollars in purchases at local stores, going into the barrel.

“The Christmas shopping promotion is a win-win for our participating businesses, their customers who support them by shopping locally, and for the community,” said The Courier manager Wanda Dunnet.

“Thanks to all the participating businesses and the thousands of shoppers who made the choice to shop locally and support our local businesses”.

The draw of prize-winners made a highly anticipated return to the Chamber of Commerce Christmas street carnival which was unable to be held last year due to COVID restrictions.

Santa Claus drew the tickets from the barrel to be scrutinised for eligibility by Narrabri Chamber of Commerce president Russell Stewart and the winners’ names were read out by Mrs Dunnet.

Second prize, $1000 in shopping vouchers to be spent at local participating stores was won by a shopper Paul McCauley. His purchase was made at the Monterey Cafe.

And as the store which sold the second prize-winning product, the Monterey Cafe wins $500 in cash.

Third prize, $500 in shopping vouchers went to Norelle Curran, for her purchase at Allpets Veterinary Clinic which won $250 in cash.

All winners from fourth to tenth places won $250 in shopping vouchers to be redeemed at the business where their purchase was made.

The Courier then reimburse the businesses for the winners’ purchases.

The fourth to tenth prize winners: Fourth prize, $250 in shopping vouchers to be spent at McKechnie Bros went to Phil Newton, fifth prize, $250, was won by Michael Rily (MJ’s Newsagency), sixth, $250, Matt Phillips (MJ’s Newsagency), seventh prize, $250 was won by Leonie Orman (Narrabri Pharmacy) eighth prize, $250, went to Kevin Rigby (Watson’s Kitchen) ninth prize of $250 went to Liam Nield (Narrabri Pharmacy) and tenth prize, $250 was won by Sue Guest (Watson’s Kitchen).
