Cricket NSW’s Plan B Regional Bash T20 tournament finals matches were held at the world-renowned Sydney Cricket Ground on Monday.
The Narrabri Shire was represented by Nathan Trindall (Narrabri) and Dylan Smith (Wee Waa), who teamed up to play for the Northern Inland Bolters.
The Bolters qualified for the 2021-22 tournament’s ‘final four’ based on the previous season’s results after two of the three Sixers Pool One games, held in Ballina in December, were washed out and declared draws.
Trindall, Smith and their teammates took on the 2020-21 finalists Lake Mac Attack in one of the two preliminary finals, while the other was contested by defending champions ACT Aces and the Central West Wranglers.
ACT Aces and Lake Mac Attack won those respective matches. The Aces then won the final that night to be crowned back-to-back champions.
Earlier in the day, Trindall starred in the Bolters’ preliminary final match, although Lake Mac Attack dominated the game from start to finish.
Lake Mac Attack won the toss and elected to bat, then finished on 5-204 after 20 overs before knocking over the Bolters for just 95 runs in 19.4 overs to win by 109 runs.
Narrabri RSL Cricket Club quick Trindall took three wickets in the first innings and also took a brilliant catch as well.
He was his team’s only multiple wicket-taker and finished the game with 3-44 from four overs.
Former Western Razorbacks gun Smith, who now plays for Old Boys in the Tamworth District Cricket Association first grade comp, bowled three overs and finished with 0-25. He then scored an unbeaten four runs in the second innings.
Trindall and Smith will team up again this Sunday when they line up for Narrabri District Cricket Association’s MA Connolly Cup team in the semi-final of that competition. The Pink Slugs will host Gwydir in the must-win game at Collins Park.
