Narrabri Harness Racing Club has welcomed the addition of a second TAB race meeting in 2022 in what the club’s president Peter Shepherdson described as a major boost.
The Narrabri Paceway, which is located at the Narrabri Showground, has hosted one TAB meeting and one non-TAB meeting per year in recent times.
The non-TAB meeting ran first and hosted the Wee Waa Cup as well as heats for the Santos Carnival of Cups and John Dean Memorial finals.
Those two feature races, as well as the Narrabri Cup among other races, would then run at the TAB meeting which would usually be held on the following weekend.
That will be the format again in 2022, however, both meetings will be TAB events.
Shepherdson told The Courier that he was happy with the development.
“We are really pleased,” he said.
“We’ve been trying for ages to get two TAB meets and it’s a major boost for us to get that this year.
“Over the two meetings, there’ll be about $150,000 worth of prizemoney on offer.
“With better prizemoney, there will be horses from Dubbo and Bathurst and Newcastle and even Queensland coming here.”
The first meeting will be held on Easter Monday, April 18, and then the second will run on Sunday, April 24.
Both are expected to host eight races and could even hold nine, depending on nominations.
Entry will be free for both meetings in 2022. There will be bookmakers, TAB, bar and canteen facilities available on both days, and the Carnival of Cups meeting on April 24 will have a kids’ disco and face painting.
