Voters in Narrabri and surrounding areas, as well as the wider federal Parkes electorate, will join Australians in heading to the polls on Saturday, May 21.

A six-week federal election campaign officially kicked off at the weekend following the call of the election.

Following the announcement, key dates were issued in relation to the coming election.

Voters will have until Monday, April 18, to update details with the Australian Electoral Commission. New voters will also have until that date to register to vote at the federal election.

Nominations for federal election candidates will close on Thursday, April 21.

Several people have already announced their candidacy for the seat of Parkes, currently represented by Nationals MP Mark Coulton.

Mr Coulton is seeking re-election for the electorate he has represented since 2007. Also seeking to be elected for Parkes are Jack Ayoub (Labor), Trish Frail (Greens) Petrus Van Der Steen (United Australian Party), Peter Rothwell (Liberal Democrats), Ben Fox (Informed Medical Options) and Stuart Howe (independent).

Early voting at the poll will start on Monday, May 9.
