North Tamworth Bears are first and the Kootingal-Moonbi Roosters are sixth, but both are on 10 competition points. That’s right, there are six teams tied equal first on the Group 4 Rugby League first grade ladder after seven rounds of play and following what was an action-packed weekend that saw both Boggabri and District Rugby League Football Club and Narrabri Rugby League Football Club score convincing wins.

On Saturday, the Kangaroos earned a 38-24 victory in front of a loud and proud home crowd against Werris Creek at Jubilee Oval on old boys day.

The Boggabri men outscored the Magpies seven tries to five and five goals to two.

Rob Doolan starred for Boggabri as he crossed for three tries, kicked five conversions, claimed three Group 4 best and fairest points and also was named his side’s players’ player.

The win was Boggabri’s fourth in six matches across the seven rounds.

On Sunday, the Narrabri Blues also scored a home ground win when they defeated Kootingal-Moonbi 44-28 at Collins Park.

The Blues led 22-0 at half-time and eventually outscored the Roosters nine tries to five, while both teams kicked four conversions each.

The other round seven games were won by the Dungowan Cowboys and North Tamworth on Saturday.

The Cowboys scored a 52-10 away from home against Manilla Tigers, while the Bears won 32-22 on home soil against Moree Boars.

The teams that are now ranked first to sixth on the first grade ladder all sit in their respective ladder positions based on for and against differences.

North Tamworth Bears (92) are first, followed by Dungowan (90), Moree (62), Boggabri (54), Narrabri (42), and Kootingal-Moonbi (0).

The six-way log jam is something that Narrabri Blues’ captain-coach Jake Rumsby and gun utility Jacob Nichols, Boggabri Kangaroos coach Shane Rampling and Group 4 Rugby League reporter Geoff Newling all said they had never seen before in the competition.
