Wee Waa High School’s bowls team will compete in the grand final of the 2022 CHS North West Open Knockout tournament following a convincing semi-final win at home on Thursday.

Twelve-year-old Year 7 duo Hunter Doring and Brock Allen and 15-year-old Year 9 student Kyne Allen teamed up to win the game against Tamworth High School 19-9 at Wee Waa Bowling Club’s Norman Sweetman Green.

Tamworth High School’s team was made up of Lucy Hooker, Reece Ware and Davina Cameron, who won the first three ends to establish an early four shots to nothing lead.

The Wee Waa boys then hit back as they produced some impressive bowls on the fourth end to score a five and hit the lead.

It was a lead they would not let go of for the reminder of the contest.

They claimed the next three ends a combined six shots to nothing to go ahead 11-4 after seven ends.

Tamworth scored two on the eighth to move to six shots, which they were forced to remain on for the next four ends while Wee Waa scored one shot on each to make the score 15-6 with three ends left to play.

Tamworth High School attempted to spark a comeback with a three on the 13th end, but the Wee Waa boys then ensured they would progress to the final when they replied with a three on the 14th.

The home side added one more point to their total when they took out the 15th end to make the final score 19-9.

That match was the Wee Waa team’s second in the knockout tournament so far.

The boys had a bye in round one and then scored a convincing 26-7 win away from home against Lightning Ridge Central School in the quarter-final stage earlier this month.

They will now take on the winner of the other semi-final, Inverell High School, in the decider.

Inverell downed the Walcha Central School team 18-5 in the other round of four game.
